A comparative study on the efficacy of Metformin vs Sulfonylurea monotherapy in veterans with Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) was performed. Here, the mortality risk associated with these drugs was compared. The results showed that the use of Metformin with CKD patients substantially reduced the mortality rate in comparison to Sulfonylureas. Introduction: Metformin is the first-line glucose-lowering treatment in Type 2 diabetes patients. But the use of metformin is contraindicated in patients with renal insufficiency.
