An exclusive awareness drive is being undertaken by Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Society (MUS) to appraise Medical fraternity and General public about advantages and applications of ultrasound in evaluation of bones and joints. Till not so long ago the popular consensus was that only CT or MRI can give a diagnosis pertaining to the pathologies of bones and joints. Now with the new technology of High frequency ultrasound (HFUS) this can be achieved at a much lower price, with greater ease, without the exposure to radiation as in CT or claustrophobia of MRI.
The results are comparable and MSK USG is a boon particularly for patients in remote areas of our country where not only there may be lack of availability of MRI/CT but also serious financial constraints.
