Mushroom poisoning has a high rate of morbidity and mortality in India. The incidence of mushroom poisoning in recent years has been highlighted due to the increasing awareness and the affected individuals seeking medical care at the earliest. As per studies conducted in India, there are 1200 mushroom species, with only 50 to 100 species known to be poisonous. Twelve groups of mushroom toxins are responsible for 14 described clinical syndromes.
