The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has upheld a Punjab State Consumer Commission ruling holding a Ludhiana-based hospital, its surgeons, and pathologists from one of the medical colleges in Ludhiana, liable for medical negligence in connection with a radical facial surgery performed without a confirmed cancer diagnosis. The case involves a dentist who, in July 2014, noticed a small lesion on her right cheek.

She underwent an excision biopsy at one of the hospitals in Ludhiana, where a tissue sample was removed and sent to the medical college for histopathological examination.
