While no doubt it is a welcome move  that the Maharashtra branch of IMA has taken to launch an Awareness Campaign to tackle the problem of junk food consumption among the school children, there are certain points to be considered for its successful impact. As a body of the learned healthcare professionals, IMA should have a basic concept of the issue before initiating any action. Does it believe that the problem of junk food consumption among the school children is due to lack of awareness among them or their parents and teachers? It is certainly not.

Just like smoking, tobacco and alcohol consumption and drug addiction, people are consuming the junk foods liberally for various reasons, inspite of being fully aware of their ill effects of serious concern on their health.
