The new strain is called "Asian Genotype". A few days back scientists from National Institute of Virology, Pune have spotted this strain of Dengue virus that has been detected for the first time in India. This “Asian Genotype” dengue virus was earlier associated with the severe epidemic in Sri Lanka (2009) and Singapore (2005). Currently, the 4 dengue types that affect Indian population are DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4.
American-African genotype of DENV-1 is the most prevalent strain since the 1940s. Now the identification of Asian genotype DENV-1 in India and its recent history might be a reason for further concern. Source: Times of India What can be done to prevent any outbreak of this new strain?
