The enhanced level of cross-reactivity among Flaviviruses and their co-circulation has complicated serological techniques to distinguish Zika virus (ZIKV) and dengue virus (DENV) infections. This results in an urgent need for a specific and sensitive serological test. This article outlines a novel ELISA based test that discriminates Zika virus from other Flaviviruses and aids in proper diagnosis. ZIKV, a mosquito-borne Flavivirus has become a public health risk, particularly for its association with severe congenital birth defects.
