Although various test kits are available in the medical field to test COVID-19, most of them are deemed as unreliable and costly. Amid these tough challenges, India has yet again proved its prowess in the field of research and innovation by creating an indigenous COVID test kit. In a major step forward, the Union Health Minister has announced that the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, has successfully developed India's first indigenous antibody testing kit, called “COVID KAVACH ELISA” to combat COVID-19.

This enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)-based kit is similar to the rapid antibody test kits used previously.
