The National Medical Commission of India has reintroduced the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum for MBBS 2024 after withdrawing its earlier version. The revised guidelines emphasize informed consent in sexual intercourse and remove terms like "unnatural" from the list of sexual offenses, which previously included lesbianism, sodomy, and other acts. The new syllabus now focuses on discussing the legal and medical implications of non-consensual sexual activities, as well as the decriminalization of adultery and consensual adult homosexual behavior in India.
The guidelines also highlight the need for students to understand sexual orientation identities and rights.
