Recently, on unfolding Hindustan Times, I noticed a headline to a column that went on to elaborate that India has the third highest number of dementia patients. Professor Prince of London who made this claim is one of the world leaders in neuroscience research. But what irked me somewhat is that this important piece of information was relegated to page 10. As a former neuroscience researcher whose first doctorate was in neurochemistry, it has always been a source of considerable distress that we have not paid sufficient attention to dementia research.

Despite the magnitude of the problem, we still do not have a coherent policy or a white paper to tackle the epidemic that is sure to hit us sooner rather than later.
