Yesterday, I was pondering over the "income" of a cardiac bypass surgeon. Even the smallest name is said to earn atleast a lakh per bypass surgery. Since I am still very young, I thought it would be worth it put in all the effort required to get a pg seat, MS general surgery residency, and MCh residency. I googled up some statistics and found that the incidence of bypass surgery is reducing in developed countries. This is because with advanced technology and research, we are detecting these diseases earlier, treating it more effectively, and incidences of complications are reducing.
By the time I earn name as bypass surgeon, bypass surgery may become outdated. A cheaper alternative may become available and it may no longer be within the domain of a bypass surgeon. So, I am trying to think which specialty would deal with the next big health epidemic? I am taking into consideration…
