The National Medical Commission (NMC), in a public notice issued on February 20, 2026, has directed medical colleges, hospitals, and registered medical practitioners across the country to exercise caution while prescribing medicines to athletes, citing growing concerns over anti-doping violations. Acting on a request from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the NMC emphasized that several commonly prescribed drugs contain substances listed under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List and may inadvertently place athletes at risk of sanctions.
The Ministry had urged the regulator to enhance awareness of anti-doping regulations within the medical community, particularly among doctors involved in treating competitive athletes.
