A recent addition to our psychopharmacological practice is Olanzapine Depot injection. Few pharma companies are manufacturing it and psychiatrists are starting to use it in their patients when the need to subtly balance antipsychotic efficacy and compliance to psychotropics (in chronic schizophrenia) is an issue. Some patients can afford it (it costs around Rs 1500 per month for 300mg olanzapine LAI).
It also carries a small risk of post-injection syndrome for which an initial 3 hours observation after injecting olanzapine is indicated. I want to ask my psychiatry colleagues to share their views if it has been used by you. Thanks.
