Duloxetine is common SNRI prescribed for major depressive disorders. A new study has found that duloxetine is an excellent perioperative analgesic for female patients whose quality of recovery from the surgery is often poor than male patients. Duloxetine is commonly prescribed serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) prescribed for a variety of major depressive disorders, fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain. It is believed to inhibit pathways which are involved in a mechanism of chronic pain.
However, the use of duloxetine for chronic pain is still not approved. The scientists from Brazil conducted a study, results of which can give a big push for its use a treatment in chronic pain.
