Family physicians were once the only physicians who used to exist in India before an era of specialists and later superspecialists took over. Now, their utility is being questioned in view of necessary specialist consultation demanded by the people.

They are most required in primary care settings in rural and semi-urban areas where people still have to depend on either so-called RMPs who are without any recognised qualifications or MBBS doctors who are not confident enough to treat all the diseases and conditions affecting the family and community. What is your opinion on the utility of family physicians in today's time?
