U.S.-based pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company is planning to introduce its oral weight-loss drug, orforglipron, in India, which could significantly improve access to obesity treatment in the country. The potential launch comes at a time when demand for weight-loss medications is rising rapidly in India. President and General Manager of Eli Lilly India, stated that the company intends to roll out orforglipron globally, including in India, once it secures the necessary regulatory approvals. Previously, Lilly introduced Mounjaro in India, a once-weekly injectable GLP-1 drug used for diabetes and weight management, marking the company’s entry into this therapeutic segment in the country.
