Osteoporosis is a prevalent systemic skeletal disease in which low bone strength increases the risk of fracture. It is called a "silent disease" because it progresses without any symptoms until a fracture occurs. Osteoporosis is diagnosed by measuring bone mineral density (BMD) or, in rare situations, by the presence of a fragility fracture or a high fracture risk without regard to BMD. As the global population ages, osteoporosis has become a significant public health concern, and tackling it requires a comprehensive approach on a war footing.
