The Siliguri branch of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India has urged the public to avoid bursting firecrackers and playing loud music during Diwali and Kali Puja. An ENT specialist highlighted that the loud noise from fireworks can cause hearing impairment , particularly in infants, children, and individuals prone to acoustic trauma. He also cautioned that high-decibel sounds can rupture the tympanic membrane and damage auditory nerves, potentially leading to permanent hearing loss.
Additionally, excessive noise may cause tinnitus , dizziness, and sleep disturbances. The Association further emphasized that air pollution from fireworks worsens respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma and can increase discomfort in those affected. Airborne pollutants can also aggravate nasal allergies, especially in individuals with long COVID,โฆ
