It is very important for women to eat nutritious foods and gain appropriate weight during pregnancy. Diet during pregnancy can influence the pregnancy, delivery, birth weight of newborns and their development, and the rate of post-pregnancy recovery for the mothers. A well-balanced diet has shown to decrease the risk of preterm labor, miscarriages, nutrient deficiencies in mothers, and eventful birth outcomes. The rising burden of under- as well as over-nutrition in pregnant women in low- and middle-income countries directly impacts maternal, infant and child health.
