Overlap syndrome is when the signs, symptoms, and immunological features of two or more connective tissue diseases, with one well-characterized rheumatic disease, coexist simultaneously, sequentially, or at different times in the same patient. The multiorgan nature of this syndrome can often complicate the management of this syndrome, and the course of treatment is governed by the dominant condition present. Therefore, a thorough examination of the pathologies involved can aid significantly in designing optimal treatment strategies for overlap syndrome.
