Case A 57-year-old man presented with pain and swelling of his left big toe. He reported that the problem had been there over the last 7 years but appeared intermittently. However, recently, pain episodes were frequent and he could not bear his weight on that side. History He had a hernia operation 14 years ago He is on hypertension (bendroflumethiazide) and hyperlipidemia (simvastatin) medications.
