A Panvel court has held a 52-year-old homoeopathic practitioner guilty of medical negligence for administering an unauthorised allopathic injection that allegedly led to a patient’s death, sentencing him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹1.10 lakh. The conviction was recorded under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code and Section 33 of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioner Act, 1961, after the court found that the BHMS-qualified doctor had acted beyond his professional competence and violated statutory norms. The case dates back to November 10, 2016, when the patient, suffering from shivering and fever, was taken to the doctor for treatment.
