Recently in a daily, headline was, the patient can demand cheaper drugs from the treating doctors, as decided by drug controller for unjust branding prescription. My question is whether the cheaper drug of assured quality is available or not? I, as a neurologist, is treating only refractory cases like epilepsy and stroke. Who will take the responsibility if the poor man develops recurrence of stroke or status epilepticus due to poor and cheaper drugs? Should I or the drug controller.

I still remember the wild decision by the controller to withdraw a standard drug Clobazam telling a lame excuse of not putting the symbol Rx in the cover, which caused so many status epilepticus. Who the hell can do such a ridiculous act putting a poor man's life at stake with this sort of negligent behavior. I don't have any relation with the company who produced Clobazam. So we as doctors should respond…
