Perforated peptic ulcer (PPU) is a fatal surgical emergency if not diagnosed and treated timely. PPU is a serious complication of peptic ulcer disease (PUD) affecting 4 million people worldwide annually. Therefore, Early diagnosis, prompt resuscitation and urgent surgical intervention are crucial to save lives. This article focuses on novel techniques along with classical pharmacotherapy, non-operative and operative management for PPU. PPU is marked by the classic triad of sudden onset of abdominal pain, tachycardia and abdominal rigidity.
