Restoration of coronary blood flow improves outcomes in acute myocardial infarction (AMI), yet myocardial perfusion may not fully recover despite successful revascularization. The clinical significance and evolution of residual hypoperfused myocardium remain unclear. A study published in Clinical Cardiology evaluated its association with left ventricular (LV) systolic function following complete revascularization in 55 patients. Hypoperfused myocardium, defined as reduced perfusion with preserved metabolism, was present in 45.5% of patients at 2 months, involving a median of 12% of the LV.
