Case presentation: An 83-year-old man was hospitalized because of anorexia, loss of body weight, fatigue, and lethargy. Other symptoms included severe bilateral periorbital edema, and mild cardiac dysfunction in the absence of headache, visual disturbance, altered mental status, and cranial nerve palsy. History: Family history of paternal hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage was present. The patient had a history of right lung adenocarcinoma that was surgically removed about 10 years ago.

He was also diagnosed with hypertension at 73 years of age, and was on antihypertensive medication.
