Motivating patients to use medicines from another pathy , whilst continuing with modern medicines has become a common practice. This practice of simultaneous use of medicines from various “pathies” ,in the absence of a better word , shall be referred to as “ polypathy ”. Polypathy constitutes a large chunk of the alternative medicine market.
Scenario I : Most patients are wary of using Ayurvedic or Homeopathic medications alone to treat their diabetes, hypertension, asthma etc. However, they are lured by commission agents to use Alternative medications along with modern medicines, by claiming faster results and sometimes cure of the disease itself. Scenario II: Ayurvedic, Homeopathic clinics encourage patients to continue with modern medicines along with the medications they have prescribed, promising to withdraw modern medicines after a period ranging from six months to a year.…
