ICMR has revealed a scary picture by confirming that the rate of breast cancer in India has not just doubled but it is now gripping a decade younger women. The breast cancers striking on less than 40 years women are most of the aggressive variety like Estrogen receptor negative or triple negative types. The breast at this age is dense and masks cancer from routine screening programs. The detection is, therefore, unfortunately at an advanced stage.
Two-thirds of the cancers in less than 40 years Indian women are palpable & have already registered their presence in the draining nodes at the time of detection. Histologically also these tumors are labeled as aggressive, making the survival rate deplorable.
