Writing Generic names along side the brand name in prescription is not a bad idea. The problem is only the increased time and prescription space required for this. To ease it, We can train our office staff to write down the generic name below the brand name, as required, for saving our time.
This will additionally help us, as the same staff can re-explain the prescription to the patient, decreasing the prescription errors which happen much more commonly than what is actually perceived. The other fear, of perceived low quality & less effective drug reaching the patient, should not refrain us from following government instructions, as the onus lies with the patient, we having prescribed the generic medicine along with the good brand name.
