Vision impairment (and blindness) is usually caused by common eye diseases in geriatric population —age-related cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, and age-related macular degeneration—the signs of which can be detected pretty early on by an ophthalmologist. Regular eye (and fundus) examination is very important in the geriatric age group to minimize fall and to enhance the quality of life. Fear of going blind is the third most feared condition in the geriatric age group after the heart attack and cancer.

Senior eye surgeon and Director of SuVi Eye Institute, KOTA, Rajasthan presented her talk on “Prevention of Blindness in Geriatric population: Ray of Hope” during the Indian Academy of Geriatric Conference (GERICON 2018) held at Govt. Medical College Kota (Rajasthan).
