Under a new law passed by the UAE government, the sale of formula milk will be banned unless it meets strict packaging rules. This new law encourages mothers to breastfeed their infants than using commercial formula milk. In April 2018, the UAE Cabinet passed a new law stating the regulations for the marketing of infant milk formulas. The cabinet has banned advertising of these formulas and has instructed companies to introduce mandatory labels clarifying that it is not a substitute for breastfeeding.
The law further states that the companies failing to comply with these requirements will have their products withdrawn from the markets along with a one-year ban on their marketing. These companies will also be charged for the cost of any damages with the suspension of their trade license.
