Pune has reported its fifth case of zika in the past ten days. The latest patient is a pregnant woman residing 150 meters away from the location of the first reported case. Among five cases, three were from Erandwane, and two were from Mundhwa in Pune. Experts have raised concerns over zika infections in pregnant women due to the risk of microcephaly in fetuses. Notably, none of the five patients had any travel history.

Thus, the experts emphasized that zika may be prevalent within the community, and more testing is required to detect them. After the pregnant woman tested positive for zika, health authorities have intensified surveillance and protective measures.
