State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Punjab, recently upheld a decision of the District Consumer Court holding a Ludhiana-based hospital and its urologist liable for medical negligence in a failed kidney transplant case. The case dated back to 2016, when a patient suffering from kidney failure approached the hospital for a transplant. On the doctor’s advice, the patient’s real brother volunteered to donate his kidney.
After several medical tests, including Ultrasound KUB, Renal Function Study, and CT Scan, the doctor certified the donor as medically fit for transplantation and issued the necessary Form-4 certificate on March 18, 2016.
