The Punjab government has begun deploying 200 security guards across government hospitals in 23 districts to improve the safety of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff. The decision comes after months of sustained pressure from medical organizations over rising incidents of violence in public hospitals. Doctors and hospital staff have repeatedly reported physical assaults, verbal abuse, and intimidation, particularly during night shifts, when security arrangements are often inadequate.
The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) stated that around 60 incidents of violence against doctors were recorded in government hospitals over the past year.
