Peripheral Vascular disease in DM is possible to be treated well provided the pathologies involved are well understood.The pathologies are as follows: 1.There is always deposition of atherosclerotic materials in a regular or commonly patchy way in various permutations and combinations as usually reported by Doppler studies. So, there is always different arteries involved in unexpected ways. 2.The important points are, there is always calcification in patchy way reported by Doppler studies.
At times the calcification of the vessels especially in ankle and foot are seen even in X-Rays of the foot. That is an extreme level of PVD and the arteries become mere conduits and the elasticity is totally lost should be understood and cannot be manipulated by therapeutics.
