Finasteride- a well-known therapeutic for enlarged prostate cancer- is reported to be safe and effective to reduce the risk of prostate cancer by 25%, according to long-term clinical findings from the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT). Approximately 19,000 men were enrolled between 1993 and 1997. Less than 100 men taking finasteride in the trial died from prostate cancer in more than two decades of follow-up.

Although previous research implicated a potential risk of advanced stages of cancer among patient taking finasteride, these recent long-term findings corroborate that the drug is a safe and effective approach to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Source: HealthDay News
