In a recent case, the Rajasthan High Court refused to grant relief to a Jaipur-based doctor accused of medical negligence and cheating, stemming from the tragic death of a newborn during delivery. The case revolved around allegations that the doctor, who was overseeing a patient’s first pregnancy in January 2007, had assured the family of a normal delivery but left for Ajmer the next day, leaving the patient under the care of unskilled hospital staff. The baby later died due to the umbilical cord being wrapped around his neck, which the complainant alleged was a result of gross medical negligence.
