A team of proficient Indian doctors performed a rare and complex type of liver transplant in a one-year-old girl using a specialized surgical technique. The doctors opted for this novel surgical technique of surgery owing to the small size of the child’s vein and the unavailability of a donor vein. This case is rare because, 1/8th of the liver has been used along with cow vein. A team of doctors at a hospital in Gurugram conducted a rare liver transplant of a one-year-old girl from Saudi Arabia using a bovine jugular vein to provide blood circulation to the new liver.
She weighed around 5.2 kg and was suffering from Biliary Atresia.
