Surgeons at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, successfully treated an exceptionally rare case involving an 11-year-old girl whose swallowed fish bone pierced her food pipe and became lodged inside the left lobe of her thyroid gland. The child initially experienced persistent throat pain and difficulty swallowing after eating fish. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy failed to detect the foreign body, but a CT scan later revealed that the fish bone had migrated into the thyroid gland, leading to a deep neck infection and abscess.
