Sepsis is a whole-body inflammatory response to an infection and common locations for the infection include: lungs, brain, urinary tract, skin, and abdominal organs. The Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) has updated the previously released guidelines on the management of sepsis patients. The recommendations in this guideline are intended to provide guidance for the clinician caring for adult patients with sepsis or septic shock. These guidelines are appropriate for the sepsis patient in a hospital setting and are intended to be best practice.
