Liver transplantation is a life-saving treatment for end-stage liver disease and acute liver failure. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in liver transplantation, improving patient outcomes and expanding the donor pool. In this review, I will discuss some of the recent advancements in liver transplantation. One major advancement in liver transplantation is the increased utilization of extended criteria donors (ECDs) and marginal donors.

ECDs are older donors, donors with steatotic livers (fatty liver), or donors with comorbidities such as hypertension or diabetes.
