Vascular anomalies can be classified into two groups :- 1. Vascular tumors : Haemangiomas 2. Vascular malformation : Lymphatic malformation, Venous malformation. Infantile haemangiomas situated in the head & neck region should be treated to prevent complications like air way obstruction, functional impairment in periorificial or periorbital lesions, ulcerated tumors. Treatment - Beta blocker propranolol is given orally in a dose of 2mg/kg/day in two or three divided doses.
The treatment is continued for 6-12 months. Haemangiomas can be divided into congenital haemangiomas & infantile haemangiomas(IH). Continental haemangiomas (CH) may be rapidly involuting (RICH) for which no treatment is needed.
