Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, commonly known as Dr. B. C. Roy, was an eminent Indian physician, educationist, and statesman who played a pivotal role in establishing modern medical practices in India. Born on July 1, 1882, he pursued his medical education in the United Kingdom before returning to India. Dr. Roy's contributions were not limited to medicine; he also served as the second Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1948 until he died in 1962. His visionary leadership and dedication to public health and education earned him the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1961.
