A 4-year old child got injured in his right hand while manipulating the feeder cutting machine at his home. His right thumb got completely detached from the hand. He was treated primarily at a nursing home. He was brought to our hospital emergency by that time already 12 hours had passed. I Dr S.K.Chawla operated him and replantation of amputated thumb was done.
His bone was fixed with IV canulaneedle. Besides tendons and nerve his one artery and two veins were joined. In the postoperative period he developed small area of skin necrosis which was removed and first dorsal metacarpal artery flap was applied. Patient recovered completely and he was able to use his right thumb for holding objects. Reconstructive microvascular plastic surgery can save amputated digits and limbs.
