Several approaches have been suggested for the management of cardiovascular diseases like drugs, diet or physical exercise. Yet, cardiovascular diseases remain a major global health burden. A recent study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology  ( JACC ), has shown that people who sleep less than 6 hours a day are at an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. The study was conducted on 3974 bank employees, two-thirds of whom were males.

The participants were fitted with devices to monitor their daily activities including sleep patterns. The participants were divided into 4 groups: Those who slept less than 6 hours Those who slept between 6-7 hours Those who slept between 7-8 hours Those who slept for more than 8 hours It was observed that people who slept for less than 6 hours were 27% more prone to atherosclerosis.
