Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious health condition affecting 697.5 million people every year. It is characterized by reduced glomerular filtration, increased albuminuria, and gradual loss of renal function. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE) and angiotensin II receptor antagonists (ARB) are commonly used to treat CKD. While these drugs effectively reduce the progression of CKD, they do not decrease its all-cause mortality. However, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors emerged as a promising alternative in reducing both the progression of CKD and its all-cause mortality.
