Dengue : Some common and uncommon manifestations. Dengue fever, caused by a mosquito-borne virus of the Flaviviridae family, is endemic to India and can present with a wide range of clinical manifestations. The disease presentation can range from a self-limiting febrile illness to life-threatening shock. In recent years, there has been an increase in reports of atypical manifestations, some of which may be severe. Dengue infection begins as a febrile illness; the fever is accompanied by constitutional symptoms and a characteristic flushing of the skin.
Intermittent high-grade fever accompanied by chills and rigors is a feature. Vomiting, headache, myalgia, epigastric discomfort, and abdominal pain are common, and patients often feel quite ill.
