Mandatory rural bond-service which is implemented to improve the healthcare delivery in rural regions of India has received a lot of criticism. The main issue raised is the working conditions due to which many doctors are not very keen on completing the bond. Few students also produce false certificates to bypass the bond service. To help curb this situation, a new positive initiative has been taken by the state departments of public health and education.
According to this policy, doctors working for the National Health Mission (NHM) will be exempted from the mandatory one-year service bond. The main aim of this policy is to increase the active involvement of doctors under the NHM in rural and urban areas, and so far it has received positive feedback from the medical fraternity.
