The Supreme court has declared a penalty of Rs 20 lakh, which is to be paid to each of the 19 meritorious students by a medical college in Maharashtra, as these students were illegally denied admission in the 2012-13 academic session. On 27 th march, the high court urged that, “ A Medical College and Hospital of Maharashtra had "wrongly and illegally denied admissions to 19 meritorious students and rather took admissions of less meritorious students for profiteering ". The students, who were denied admissions by the college had filed a complaint to the collector, Pravesh Niyantran Samiti (PNS) and other authorities concerned about the loopholes, and even approached the high court for the relief.
