At least 15 professors and heads of departments at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi opted for voluntary retirement between 2023 and 2025. Many had served the institution for nearly three decades and left with two to four years of service remaining. Several later joined private hospitals.
While official documents cited personal reasons for retirement, some doctors reportedly pointed to challenges including increasing administrative responsibilities, bureaucratic hurdles , procurement delays, lengthy tender processes, limited career progression, leadership constraints, and salary differences.
